Located in central Minnesota’s Brainerd Lakes Areas in the
heart of the Northern Great Lakes ecological region, the 45 hole Robert
Trent Jones II-designed golf course sit gently on 320 acres in a second
growth hardwood forest dominated by white and red oak, Norway pine,
aspen, paper birch, and spruce. Once part of a vast old-growth
forest that stretched from the Dakotas to the Atlantic coast, the
property includes as its
predominant water feature, Stephen’s Lake, a spring-fed water body which covers 103
acres and has 40 acres of wetlands located along its north and southwest
edges. Twenty-three acres of prairie were restored with side oats grama,
blue grama, Kalm's brome, and prairie dropseed. A wildflower meadow of
yarrow, New England aster, joe-pye weed, and ironweed was also
established. Wildlife seen on the property include whitetail deer,
eastern grey squirrel, bats, porcupine, gray wolf, and Blanding’s
turtle, a state threatened species. For more information on the first Certified Audubon
